Cold, cold day.

I had forgotten how cold Canberra can be. Today was one of those days, snow up in the hills, light drizzle and a bitter wind. It got colder as the day progressed. I was on playground duty; I did not have a coat, so the wind seem to go straight through me even though I had two layers on. Graham went to Adelaide today, left at 5.30 this morning and was suppose to come in at 8.30 but his flight has been delayed so he won't be in till 10 o'clock. As it is so cold he is catching a taxi home rather than me picking him up.
Jess has picked up a cold, so she has spent the day at home on the couch. She was worried about not going to school as she had a couple of assessments on but I am sure that they can be made up next week. School is starting to wind down for her, as most of the assessments are done and the reports are written. Speaking of school, I did my last day of relief today at St Anthony’s Primary. I use to work there twenty years ago; I was one of the original staff. It was great staff then, close bonds between staff members and willingness to help each other. I remained friends with most staff all those years. I saw the St Anthony’s spirit in action this week, one of the staff members lost her partner on Tuesday, the school is in mourning and has rallied around her and is providing all types of support. It is lovely to see something I was at the beginning of still remaining and working well.

Saturday - Queen's Birthday Weekend

This is the title page for my circle journal that I am doing with a group from SBB. We are called the Legacy Ladies. This is my third go at making the title page; I am trying a newer style of scrap booking which has simpler lines.
I really like how things turn out and the reason I think that it appeals to me so much is that it is more mathematical..... working out spaces etc.
I have started packing boxes for our move in three weeks. It will be sad to leave Canberra as it is a great place to live but at the same time it will be wonderful to be back in Brisbane. This time I am going to unpack all the boxes and make some decisions about the things in them. They have been in boxes for over three years, so I get the feeling that the things are not very important to us any more.
I took Jess to Beaver Galley this morning, we had been garage saling but were getting too wet (wet! First rain for six weeks). We saw some really wonderful things, some great paintings of teacups done by a local artist. Jess was excited by them and it was great to listen to her do a constructive criticism on them. I came with the loveliest thing, a delicate porcelain container with patchwork designs on it. I will take a photo of it this week.
About the rain, yesterday I worked at St Anthony’s at Wanniassa and the whole school prayed for rain (four times), the arch-bishop of Canberra had asked the people of Canberra and Goulburn especially the schools to pray. Guess what! It’s raining.

Thursday 9th June
Had a busy day …… babysitting and sorting out my circle journal scrapbook. I am enjoying this circle journal so much, they are lively, active group of women and are keen to communicate and get things done. There are some really lovely layouts being produced. The next one that I have to do is two alphabet pages for an ABC book. I have the letters Q and G. I am still thinking about that one. Any ideas?
Jessie had last weekend away camping; the camp was organised by the Duke of Edinburgh group at her school. Marist College joins with Merici on these camps and it is a great way for her to met boys under normal circumstances. The camp was very challenging and tested her strength of self. The most difficult thing for her was when she had to ask the group “Do I belong?” She got very positive comments back from people that she only knew a little bit. She got her photos back yesterday of the camp and it was great to see the people and where she was. I have done one layout of her going on the camp but I will need to do one of the camp itself but she will have to do the journaling.

Thursday
I should be doing my housework. I didn't going teaching today, even though I got three calls. I wanted to get some things done in the house and also some scrapping.
I had a lovely day yesterday, I met Judy for coffee in the morning at Mawson Shopping Centre. We ended up sitting there for two hours chatting. In the afternoon she came out to Narrabundah to collect some autumn leaves to put on her garden, we have such wonderful mature trees in our surburb.
I just finished this layout on Graham and Abby, he was so chuffed when she was born on his birthday, I think that he told everyone. I think that they are going to be very much alike.

1st June
A big month ahead of us, we have to pack up our house in preparation for our move to Brisbane. We went up last weekend to have a look at houses to rent, the rental market is tight in the area that we want to live. But we ended up finding a lovely house in Bardon, the suburb that we use to live in before. It is a large house but the really big pluses for it that is that it fairly new, all the living areas are on one level, it has plenty of windows even though they ae small and it gives the feeling that it will be a very easy house to live in. I am starting to get very excited about moving - Brisbane is such a beautiful place, it makes you feel alive.
I received in the mail yesterday a new book called 'Clean & Simple Scrapbooking' by Cathy Zielske. It is so great, it is how I like my layouts to look, so as a results I have re-done a few layouts. I am trying to finish off my album on the first half of this year.
